About Us

10.15.03 About Us:

Why are you writing this like an interview?

Good question imaginary person! There are a number of reasons for this. Allow me to list, if you will:

1) I'm a giant geek.
2) I've abandoned my initial idea for the 'About Us' page which was to give us 'entries' in the style of the old 'Marvel Universe' comic series which worked as a kind of encyclopedia for all characters who ever appeared in Marvel comics. My favorite part of this idea was that my 'biography' would list that my superpowers were unknown, and it would be suggested that I was only pretending to be a superhero so I could crash at the Avengers mansion until they figured me out and threw my poser super hero ass out. I've subsequently abandoned this idea because... well... ok, I'm just not THAT much of a giant geek.
3) I'm insane and derive some strange pleasure at the idea of interviewing myself.

Where did you two grow up?

I grew up in Rockaway Beach, Queens, hated it, and pretty much ran away when I was a teenager. Clarisse grew up in Manhattan, was moved to Westchester as a teenager, and wants to severely beat her parents still for moving her to that suburban hellhole. We both now live happily in NYC.

How did you two meet?

We meet through friends at a bar. After a few months of knowing each other I asked Clarisse if she wanted to drive cross-country with me for 3 weeks, which she accepted. On that trip we transformed from Mike and Clarisse to "Mike & Clarisse." A year and a half later we were married at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio, which was not coincidentally where we went the for the first time on the second day of our cross-country trip.

Why do you two like rollercoasters so much?

I don't have an easy answer for that question, despite the fact that I asked it. I know for me a lot of it comes from growing up right next to a rollercoaster as a kid, and having very strong memories of being very, very happy running from the exit station of the coaster back to the queue line over and over... and over. I like very intense feelings in all the packages that they come in, so that also contributes. Maybe most importantly Clarisse and I went to a park right when we hooked up and we both loved it... and then of course we got married at that park... so I think there's now a strong association between our love for each other and rollercoasters... if that um; doesn't sound too completely off the wall.

Do either of you work?

Yes. But neither of us have figured out "what we're gonna do when we grow up" yet. But we'd like to some day.

What are your hobbies?

I've been writing in some form or another pretty much consistently since I was 12 years old. Since I don't get paid for doing it I guess I'll call it a "hobby." Clarisse began practicing digital photography about a year ago and she's beginning to get pretty good at it. For about 3 or 4 years now I've been creating web pages for myself and occasionally friends, and I'm still quite enjoying that (as you can see). I have a Fine Arts degree in film that I don't use due to my inability to fit in or be accepted by other people that work in that industry. Discovering that I was too much of a freak in an industry of freaks was interesting, but pretty sucky. Clarisse has no fine arts training but has a creative mind and spirit that pretty much explode out of her. She's been trying to refine and hone that talent to a specific area for a while now, and with photography I think she's getting good results.

At this point, Clarisse has begun poking me on the train, so I will now interview her.

Who is your Daddy, and what does he do?

My Daddy's a cute little man and he plays cards.

Stop whining!

Look, duckies!

Do you own any animals?

I don't own animals, but I do have domestic companions, including my husband Michael, my roommate who would probably prefer to remain unnamed (he knows who he is), a sweet little baby girl kittie; Kob'uce; and a cutie bad boy feline; roscoe.

What's with "Kob'uce?"

It took me quite a long time to name her. So I turned to the dictionary and a Kobold is a mischievous devil but she's a sweet one and Douce is sweet in French. Oh, and Kobold is German, so she's multi-national!

How are you going to deal with long lines and long hours driving on our trip? Won't you get bored?

Yes. Mischief and evil will prevail.

How would you describe yourself?

No. No. Yes. In what way?

I dunno. What is it that you like about rollercoasters?

I like to go upside down. And I like the wind to go through my hair. And I like to go really fast. And I like feeling like I'm about to die but knowing I'm not going to. And if I do oh well.

Would you look forward to or dread a high school reunion?

I already went to my high school reunion. It was fun. Except that my cellphone rang when we had a moment of silence for someone who died. (Pause) And I answered it. (Pause) But not in the same room.

What would you say to God to ensure your entrance to heaven?

I don't really have to say anything. Just by looking at me you'd know where I belong. (Pause) Where do I belong?
