Lake Compounce is an old park. In fact, it is the oldest operating park in America having first begun entertaining guests in 1846. Located in Bristol, Connecticut about 90 minutes from New York, Lake Compounce is a great day trip for a family or couple that wants to have a quiet outing outside of the corporate atmosphere of the giant parks. But with the addition of their top 5 wooden rollercoaster Boulder Dash in 2000, Lake Compounce has also become a destination for any serious rollercoaster fan. As well it should regardless, for this park has a lot of heart. |

I have very fond memories of Great Adventure. It was the first park my parents took me to as a child, and annual visits became a matter of course. To this day when I think of amusement parks I remember waking up at 6AM, before anyone else in my family - no alarm clock necassary. It's that giddy thrill and excitement that I still feel about parks to this day. |
